The Whitaker Group’s communications team carries out media and messaging campaigns with a sophisticated and nuanced approach that both raises Africa’s profile and enhances corporate client brands. Our comprehensive communications services are built on our deep knowledge of Africa and its issues, and show a commitment to disseminate truthful information that is in the best interests of our clients.
TWG plans and implements campaigns that target and educate U.S. investors, opinion leaders and government decision-makers. Effectively spreading positive and relevant information and imagery, our communications initiatives shape global perceptions and positively brand the image of client countries and Africa worldwide. With its understanding of both US and African cultural mores, TWG provides communications consulting that helps clients bridge cultural divides.
On behalf of global companies, TWG regularly completes both broad-based campaigns and narrowly focused media initiatives that support our clients’ sustainability and expansion, both inside and outside of Africa. This work includes risk and crisis response communication, opinion research, identification of target audiences, media analysis, persuasive messaging, interview placement, and the production of an effective array of print, online, video and audio materials in appropriate languages.
Our communications and public relations work includes:
- Creating global branding campaigns for country clients and industry sectors. In 2006, TWG launched a branding campaign for Lesotho’s apparel industry, establishing Lesotho as the destination for ethical manufacturing.
- Publishing and disseminating quarterly newsletters for all African country clients to TWG’s database of 8000+, including US press, government, private sector, NGO and opinion leaders.
- Publishing and disseminating the bimonthly Africa Health News, publicizing the burgeoning number of public-private partnerships that are transforming the face of health care in Africa.
- Facilitating high-level targeted press coverage and media exposure for country client delegation visits to the US and corporate client visits to Africa, including press conferences, interviews and drafting and releasing press releases to TWG’s database.
- Helping facilitate the broadcast of promotional documentaries about client countries in the US. TWG worked with the Africa Society in facilitating the Discovery Channel’s “Presidential Tour of Uganda” broadcast and the C-SPAN broadcast of “Ghana: Its Politics and People.” It worked with CNN’s Inside Africa program on the broadcast of “A Day in the Life of African Women,” featuring Nigeria’s then Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
- Designing and executing major messaging and media campaigns for global companies targeted at US, Africa and international opinion leaders.
