The AGOA Action Committee and The Whitaker Group hosted an exclusive discussion on trade and economic development in Africa featuring Dr. Paul Collier, a world renowned expert of African economies and author of the critically-acclaimed and best-selling book, The Bottom Billion: Why the Poorest Countries are Failing and What Can Be Done About it.
The discussion was a clarion call for a global AGOA, an expansion of the current trade preference program to allow African exports preferential access to all Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) markets. Dr. Collier praised AGOA, singling it out as a successful strategy for creating jobs and spurring growth and highlighting it as a model for a global strategy through which to improve the lives and economies of the bottom billion.
